Empire State of Mind

Okay, so this last week has been insane. Well, or at least, I have been insane this last week. I received an offer for that job on Tuesday (after having an interview with another prestigious institution on Monday with a school that I would really like to work for), sent them an email on Wednesday renegotiating a salary (which I'd never really done before and freaked me out and I hadn't slept so I'm not sure quite how I even made sense--maybe I didn't), went to the temple Wednesday to really pray and calm down (because I'd been working at the temple the night before and didn't have time to really think)... Thursday I accepted. And they'd raised their offer a bit. I'm really excited. This job has felt really right all along--almost crazily. I haven't felt so directed since I went on a mission.

SO. I'm moving to NYC. I think I just found a place to live. I ALSO just sold my contract, my bookcases and bed (thanks Leslie!!), my CAR (with people that want it if it falls through), and tentatively my bike. I just need to sell my scooter now... Mom, you'll be glad to know that it is a safe neighborhood. Ridiculously nice. And somewhat spendy, but worth it I think. Right by the temple.

I'm pretty excited. Um, VERY excited. I'm hoping that my random conversations with my new supervisor didn't totally change her opinion of me in a negative way. She said that the decision to bring me on was unanimous--everyone that I interviewed with liked me. I really am so excited to be able to STRETCH. There's going to be really high expectations and I'm sure I'll die for a month or so... but I really like feeling busy.

I'll put pictures and info up soon. In the meantime, my bedroom is empty and I have seven boxes of books that if I get this apartment, I will be hauling up four stories. Holy moly.

UPDATE: I just agreed to get this apartment: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=89896&id=711852641&l=b8822b3c42
The room I'll be in is the one with all the furniture. It is in a really nice area too:

Is that your closet?! Looks like it might just fit all of your clothes ; ) I can come over this afternoon or tomorrow to haul that stuff out. Let me know when. I am soooo glad that everythign is going so easily for you. I'm sure it's a HUGE stress releif to get everything sold so quickly. If you need a place to stay when your contract sells come on over, we have a spare bedroom :)!!!!!

Well, you guys are ALL welcome to come! And Jennie, I'm definitely coming over to Berlin. Cheap tickets to Europe? So great.
Leslie, THANK YOU. Honestly, with all the spastic freaking out you've been so helpful--breathing is a good thing... (Yesterday's freak out was because of the rent... Coming from paying $275 with about $35 for utilities, going to $1350-utilities included though!-for one room in a small apartment is a bit of sticker shock... I'll be so POOR. ha And I'm not the type to freak so...).
I am going up to SLC for physical therapy this afternoon and will probably stop off at Joelle's after--which, side note, you need to come with me sometime AND I need to find out Kennedy's size because Jo said she has some clothes for you. But I'm free tomorrow! I even just changed my hair appointment to closer to when I leave so let's play! :)

Wow! I'm so excited for you, Oertel!! Do you remember my friend Kristin Balicki, who came to OK for my wedding reception? Well, she lives in NYC, too, I think she works for NYU, or maybe Columbia, anyway, you should look her up!! NYC will never be the same once you take up residence there! All my love and best wishes, chickee.

Thank you Melissa! I DO remember her (and I remember you talking about her before I met her--so I was predisposed to like her). That's fun! I will for sure look her up. :) Thanks for the love AND wishes--pretty sure I will need both. Love you back!
